Greg Brown: Ideology meets incompetence on the CCS board

I don’t know Greg Brown the man. In all likelihood, he’s a loving father and grandfather. He may have a wit or joy or kindness to friends and family that brightens the lives of those close to him. He may possess a great talent for woodworking or the piano or some other common hobby. I wouldn’t know, as I don’t know Greg Brown the man.

But I am extremely familiar with Greg Brown the candidate and then member of our school board.

As an advocate for our incredible school system, I’ve spent two years watching that Greg Brown routinely demonstrate a mix of dishonesty and incompetence. He has been transparently focused on pushing his politics into CCS, rather than learning or carrying out the primary duties of his role.

He's been a key part of establishing and promoting Carmel Excellence, giving the statewide PAC $1,000 early on and then lending it another ~$9,000 for its kickoff event. At that event, he and his former running mate Jenny Brown were greeting attendees and introducing them to Dina Ferchmin and Robin Clark.

CCS can’t afford Carmel Excellence putting two more Greg Browns on the board.

Some examples of Greg Brown's behavior over his term:

After 10 months on the job, Greg Brown claimed he was too ignorant to carry out one of the top responsibilities of his job and refused to vote on the 2024 budget. (Click here for more info.)

Greg Brown used his campaign email list to share what appeared to be non-public information with his supporters in an attempt to circumvent the administration’s authority to hire personnel. (Click here for more info.)

Greg Brown testified in front of the Indiana General Assembly multiple times without disclosing that he was not speaking on behalf of the board. (Click here for more info.)

During one of his times testifying at the Statehouse, Greg Brown attempted to criticize CCS in a way that demonstrated his complete lack of understanding of both CCS policy and the law. (Click here for more info.)

Greg Brown advocated on behalf of Valor, an organization that was in the midst of suing CCS in an attempt to force the district to surrender a taxpayer-funded, CCS-owned property, while simultaneously demonstrating his ignorance of our schools. (Click here for more info.)

Just in his attempts to remove books from the Carmel High School library, Greg Brown made false claims about Indiana law, research on pornography, actions taken within the library and actions taken at another school district. (Click here for more info.)

Regarding books, Greg Brown also effectively accused parents who let their kids read certain young adult novels of committing a felony. (Click here for more info.)

Parroting a Moms For Liberty nationwide talking point, Greg Brown objected to CCS’s adoption of the Wit and Wisdom curriculum, said he would provide the board and administration with examples of what concerned him and then refused to do so. (Click here for more info.)

And let’s not forget the 2022 election, when Greg Brown squeezed into office via a campaign and supporters who repeatedly spread misinformation about everything from our schools’ enrollment rates and test results to claims about teachers indoctrinating students. (Click here for more info.)

If not Carmel Excellence, then who?

If you're proud to live in one of the top school districts in the state...

If you appreciate and support our teachers...

If your kids have benefited or are benefiting from a world-class CCS education...

If you want our schools to stay welcoming to all students and their families...

I hope you'll join me in opposing Carmel Excellence and voting for Jon Shapiro and Kris Wheeler
